Description

This course examines American literature from approximately 1820 to 1865. The course explores Romanticism as an aesthetic and ideological category that enables readers to examine literary responses to issues such as individualism, slavery, westward expansion, Native American displacement, women’s rights, the Industrial Revolution, and the rise of capitalism.
