Description

This course will focus on providing pre-service teachers with the theoretical and evidence-based foundations of reading and writing processes and instructional approaches using research supported by the science of reading. Pre-service teachers will develop knowledge of the components of reading: phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency. Teacher candidates will explore literacy practices in early childhood and elementary settings that foster an understanding and respect for differences in our society, encourage inclusion, and supports the diverse needs of learners including dual language learners.
